Hi friends I am back with something exciting i.e. the discovery of new earth. Friends you all have heard about this last week in news channels and newspapers that a new solar system has been found-Trappist-1. Scientists believe that there is the full probability of planets like earth orbiting around that star.
Trappist-1 is the name of star around which seven planets have been discovered same as our Solar system. TRAPPIST-1 is an ultracool dwarf star located 39.5 light-years from the Sun in the constellation Aquarius. Is has been named TRAPPIST-1 because It has been discovered by the telescope named Trappist.
Astronomers first discovered three Earth-sized planets orbiting the dwarf star in 2015. A team led by Astronomers first discovered three Earth-sized planets orbiting the dwarf star in 2015. A team led by Michael Gillion the University of liese in Belgium detected the planets using transit photometry with the Transiting Planets and Planetesimals Small Telescope (TRAPPIST) at the La silla observatory Chile. On 22 February 2017, astronomers announced four additional exoplanets around TRAPPIST-1. This work used the NASA Spitzer space telescope and the Very Large Telescope at Paranal, among others, and brought the total number of planets to seven, of which three are considered to be within its habitable zone.
In February 2017, astronomers announced that the planetary system of this star is composed of seven temperate terrestrial planets of which five (b,c,e, f and g) are similar in size to Earth, and two (dand h) are intermediate in size between Mars (with a diameter about half that of Earth) and Earth. Three (e, f and g) orbit in the habitable zone. The total mass of the six inner planets is about 0.02% the mass of TRAPPIST-1, a fraction similar to that for the Galalien satellites of Jupiter , suggesting perhaps a similar formation history .
I will update the further information about the Trappist-1 as research is done.
